I'm Brian Fung. I cover technology and business for CNN from Washington, D.C., with an emphasis on law, regulation and public policy. That includes everything from Supreme Court battles over online speech to the European rules setting new global technology standards to the congressional hearings where tech CEOs get grilled by lawmakers.
I write intensively about how the policies we make surrounding tech, both by companies and the government, shape our everyday lives — ranging from social media platforms' handling of misinformation to the legislation that influences billions of dollars in economic activity. I've covered big fights over broadband regulation, massive antitrust lawsuits against Big Tech platforms, and the world's effort to rein in artificial intelligence. I'm as comfortable diving deep into administrative procedure as I am explaining how to protect yourself from hackers and identity theft.
Before joining CNN, I was a tech policy reporter at The Washington Post. I have also covered technology for National Journal and have been an associate editor at The Atlantic, where I oversaw its online coverage of health, science and foreign affairs. I hold degrees in political science from Middlebury College and in international relations from the London School of Economics, where I focused on global security.
